On December 17, 2023, the Sea Cadets 9-1-1 Division and family, friends, community groups, civic leaders, and patriotic citizens gathered at Fort Sheridan National Cemetery and Great Lakes Naval Base for a heartfelt and solemn commemoration. This event, held during the holiday season, was dedicated to honoring veterans and all who served in our nation's military by adorning their gravesites with fresh wreaths.
The wreaths, meticulously hand-made and fresh-cut in northern Wisconsin, were laid upon over 3,000 graves, beautifully expressing appreciation for the veterans' unwavering commitment to our safety, freedom, and way of life. The Sea Cadets 9-1-1 Division played a crucial role in this tribute, joining local civic groups to ensure each wreath was respectfully placed.
The ceremony was as moving as it was meaningful, poignantly reminding us of the sacrifices made by those who served our country. The community's collaborative effort, culminating in the elegant decoration of the graves, is a testament to their enduring respect and gratitude for the veterans.
The event was made possible through the generous support and funding from the community, which helped procure the over 3,000 wreaths needed. The Sea Cadets' participation in this significant event underscores their dedication to honoring the legacy of our military heroes.
