November 2023 Drill

Updated: Jun 27

During the November Drill (11-12 November, 2023) our unit was split into two groups. Sea Cadets have covered the Red Cross First Aid curriculum, and League cadets worked with a Guest Instructor Liz Moore on the First Aid Basics.

League cadets learned about the Cardiovascular system, sick call check-in, note-taking, and drugs. Cadets now confidently take blood pressure and swab different surfaces for germs. Thank you, Guest Expert Liz Moore, for sharing your knowledge with cadets.

XO Keith Yates is also a Certified Red Cross Instructor through Sea Cadets First Aid, CPR, and AED courses. They also participated in practical exercises related to this course. Those who wanted to receive an official Red Cross certification for the course could pay the Red Cross fee to obtain the card.

Next month, we will continue with the medical curriculum.

QUESTION from the STEM TEAM for ALL FAMILIES

If you own a laser cutter, please let me know so we can borrow it for a project the Steam Team is working on.

GIVING TUESDAY

We will be reaching out to you soon for Giving Tuesday. If you can donate, please keep our Sea Cadets Unit and the Marksmanship Team in mind for your donations.

DECEMBER

In December, we will host a Christmas Party at the end of the Sunday drill and will hold our traditional White Elephant Gift Exchange. Everyone is encouraged to bring a gift for the exchange—please keep it under $25.

Our coat drive was a great success! All coats were donated to the Hope Manor in Chicago, which supports city veterans and their families. Next month, they will be collecting gifts for kids from low-income families. Could you keep them in mind as you go holiday shopping? We will collect children's presents from anyone willing to donate and deliver them the week after our December Drill.

2023 Fallen Hero Wreaths Fort Sheridan to Honor Daniel Trew—We also plan on attending and laying down wreaths at the Fort Sheridan cemetery on Saturday, December 16, at 9 AM.This is a great event we have supported for years, and we hope to see most of our cadets there this year.
