Sea Cadets Division 9-1-1 proudly participated in a memorable event at downtown Crystal Lake on September 28, 2024, when they provided the Color Guard detail for the 31st annual Johnny Appleseed Festival. This vibrant community event has become a much-anticipated autumn tradition, bringing families together to celebrate the season’s delights and pay homage to local history.
This year’s festival held special significance, marking the 250th birthday of the legendary American folk hero, Johnny Appleseed, also known as John Chapman.
This opportunity to participate in the Johnny Appleseed Festival represents more than a ceremonial role—it’s a chance to connect with the community, inspire younger generations, and embody the core values of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
In addition to the Color Guard, festival attendees enjoyed a full day of fall-inspired activities, apple treats, live music, and artisan displays lining the streets.
Sea Cadets 9-1-1 Division would like to extend their thanks to the Crystal Lake community for their warm reception and support. Participating in this beloved festival is an honor for the cadets and a reminder of the strong ties that unite us all.
As Johnny Appleseed himself sowed seeds of growth across the country, so too do these young cadets plant seeds of patriotism and service in their community, growing into future leaders. Here's to a fruitful fall season and a happy 250th birthday to Johnny Appleseed!
